Ms. Noor Asfia Awan, an ardent scholar and advocate for sustainable development, brings a wealth of expertise and a fervent commitment to addressing climate change challenges. With an extensive academic background and a profound understanding of environmental sustainability, intellectual property rights, and trade dynamics, she is a trailblazer in the realm of sustainable agriculture and Geographical Indications (GIs).

Noor Asfia embarked on her academic journey by pursuing a Bachelor’s in Banking and Finance (BBA Hons), later complemented by a Bachelor’s in Law (LL.B). Her quest for knowledge led her to an M.Phil. and eventually a Ph.D. in Total Quality Management, providing her with a robust foundation in diverse fields relevant to sustainable development.

With a remarkable collection of research publications in the agriculture sector, Noor Asfia’s dedication lies in exploring climate-resilient agricultural practices. She firmly believes in the pivotal role of agriculture in fostering sustainable development and climate adaptation, aligning her work seamlessly with global climate change agendas.

Her professional tenure spans eleven years across government and private sectors, where she has made significant contributions. Currently serving as a National Consultant for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), she spearheads transformative projects like the Sindhri Mango Project. Simultaneously engaged as a consultant for the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), she actively contributes to formulating strategic policies on intellectual property.

Notably, Noor Asfia’s association with the Agriculture Department, Government of Sindh, has been instrumental in crafting Books of Specifications (BoS) for Agricultural Geographical Indications (GIs) and regulations aimed at safeguarding GIs. Her efforts align seamlessly with climate adaptation imperatives by preserving and promoting region-specific agricultural practices.

Her tenure as Director in the Geographical Indications (GI) cell of the Ministry of Commerce underscored her direct involvement in intellectual property rights, GI preservation, and their relation to climate change. Her instrumental role in registering significant GIs, including Sindhri Mango and Chaunsa Mango, reflects her commitment to preserving the uniqueness of regional produce.

Noor Asfia’s contributions extend to trade consultancy in the Ministry of Commerce, focusing on enhancing trade practices while fostering sustainability, evident in her research for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). She actively promotes economic stability while facilitating industrial relocation, contributing directly to climate adaptation and sustainable growth.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Noor Asfia is a national-level sports achiever and an avid participant in seminars and training programs. Her dedication to sustainable development, climate adaptation, and intellectual property rights embodies her commitment to creating a resilient and sustainable world.
